An 85-year-old widow, who chose to make Preston her home almost 40 years ago, has shown her love for the city and its citizens by donating £2,001 to charities Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity (LTHC) for them to share.
Mrs Laxmiben Mistry is originally from India but moved to Preston from Bolton in 1986 following her husband’s 1985 passing and became an active member of Preston’s Gujarat Hindu Society.
A supporter of a number of local causes, Mrs Mistry, who now lives in sheltered accommodation, previously gifted £2,001 to Rosemere Cancer Foundation in 2023 after learning of its work through friends.
From her latest donation, Rosemere Cancer Foundation received £1,001 with the remainder of the funds going to LTHC to support Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s diabetes services.
Friend andpresident of Preston’s Gujarat Hindu SocietyMr Ishwer Tailor MBE said: “Mrs Mistry is a very religious and very charitable lady. She is very happy to support Rosemere Cancer Foundation and LTHC for the work they do to help local cancer and diabetes patients.”
Lucy Clark, fundraiser for LTHC, said: “We are very grateful to Mrs Mistry for her fantastic donation. Her love of Preston and its people is very apparent. I can assure Mrs Mistry that every penny of her gift will be spent by ourselves and my colleagues at Rosemere Cancer Foundation on projects that will bring real benefit to people in the city and its surrounding areas undergoing treatment for cancer and diabetes.”
