Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity has funded 13 portable speakers for the Theatres at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital, costing £218, so that relaxing music can be played during procedures.

Elaine Elkington, Nursing Assistant Practitioner, says, “There is considerable evidence that music therapy within a theatre setting can help calm and reassure patients and has a positive benefit on their wellbeing. It can also support the wellbeing of the surgical team who operate in a pressurised environment.”

The speakers are Bluetooth and can connect to any smart device, so patients and staff can choose the music they would like to listen to. They are also waterproof so easy to clean.

Currently around 60 patients each day have a surgery at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital so over 16,500 patients per year will benefit from the music therapy offered in the theatres.

Being able to offer patients their choice of music whilst undergoing procedures will really help to calm nerves and reduce anxiety. This is the difference that donations to our charity can make.”
