Lancashire Teaching Hospital Charity has funded 2,500 innovative mirrored cards which will help prevent pressure ulcer sores in patients across the Trust at a cost of £2,430.

The cards can be used by staff to help with the twice daily check of patients who are at risk of pressure ulcer skin damage, primarily because they need to spend long periods of time in bed because of their illness. The cards are mirrored so they allow staff to view the areas of the body susceptible to pressure ulcers such as the heels, elbows, hips and the base of the spine, without the need to move heavy limbs or stretch and bend over the patient’s bed.

Nicola Ross, Matron for Patient Safety says, “The mirrored cards are a simple but effective way to check our patients and allow us to implement measures quickly to prevent pressure ulcers developing. We are very grateful to LTH Charity and its supporters for funding this equipment which will enhance the care we as a Trust provide to our patients.”
