Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity has funded specialist recliner chairs and mobilising equipment costing £7,792 for patients in Ward 17 which cares for elderly patients, many of whom require assistance with their mobility. The equipment will help the patients to perform sit to stand and transfers from bed to chair. The equipment is widely used in community settings, so by having it on the ward, patients are familiar with it when they are discharged, therefore supporting their rehabilitation.

Joby Jacob, Ward Manager says, “We used the recliner chairs and mobilising equipment on loan for a few weeks and found it really beneficial, so we decided to apply to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity for funding. Elderly patients require early mobilisation following an illness or surgery to prevent longer stays in hospital and to reduce pressure ulcers developing on ward. This equipment really makes a real difference.”
