Staff working on the Critical Care Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital have been gifted a new handheld Doppler by a grateful patient, who made a donation of £1,159.66 to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity (LTHC) to pay for it.
The hand-held doppler is a noninvasive ultrasound tool to assess peripheral blood flow.
Janet Bolton, who is lead clinical educator for the Critical Care Team, said: “A Doppler is a critical, portable ultrasound tool used in critical care. It provides immediate, non-invasive, audible evidence of arterial or venous blood flow, which is vital for patients with poor circulation, shock or suspected vascular blockages.
“We are very grateful for the new doppler, which will be used on a daily basis, benefiting approximately 14 to 28 patients a month.”
Joanna Allitt, fundraising manager for LTHC, said: “The patient, who wishes to remain anonymous, was very grateful for the care he received on the Critical Care Unit and for the support given to his family. Making the donation for the Doppler was his way of showing his appreciation.”
