Patient experience lead for children’s services Michelle Millington (left) is among supporters of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity’s Children’s Appeal, who have been “roped in” to taking part in a fundraising abseil of Peel Tower in a couple of weeks (Saturday, 25th March).
They have voluntarily signed a “Pledge to go over the Edge” of the 128ft landmark, which stands on the summit of Holcombe Hill near Ramsbottom.
Appeal fundraiser and fellow abseiler Lucy Clark (right) said: “We are just £850 off reaching the £300,000 mark on our appeal barometer. I would like the abseil to not only take us to this milestone, but also beyond it!
“With myself and Michelle, we currently have an abseil team of 20 supporters but there’s room for more as the sign up deadline isn’t until Thursday, 23rd March, and abseiling is something that’s on a lot of people’s bucket lists.”
The abseil, which is being sponsored by Farington roofing company Gables UK Ltd, is being run in association with specialist outdoor activities company Alternative Adventure. It is providing all helmets and other safety equipment as well as instruction. Michelle said: “Working with children across children’s services, I see first-hand on a daily basis the difference that the Children’s Appeal makes to provide distraction and enrichment opportunities. I am excited to be a part of raising more funds through taking on the Peel Tower abseil challenge.”
Through its Children’s Appeal, the charity team is aiming to raise £1 million for a wish list of items to bring about a raft of improvements to children’s in and outpatients at the Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, Leyland’s Broadoaks Child Development Centre and all other local children’s facilities managed by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
