Six specialist therapy chairs, which will assist the recovery of patients in the Critical Care Unit (CrCU) at RPH, have been funded by LTH Charity at a cost of £12,312.

Research shows that the early rehabilitation of critical care patients improves cognitive and psychosocial function, reduces the time required on mechanical ventilation and improves physical function when patients are discharged from the critical care unit.

Jo Agnew, Speciality Business Manager for Critical Care says, “The chairs funded by LTH Charity will be used by the therapy team and other staff within the unit to assist in patients’ rehabilitation. They provide good support and comfort for patients and are lightweight and easy to manoeuvre for staff. They also have a range of adjustable positions and are suitable for patients of all heights. The chairs will be used on a daily basis, for example helping patients with moving from sitting to standing.”
